First Mobile Call in India Made in 1995, Now Country Has 1.2 Billion Mobile Users

Department of Telecommunication (DoT) shared an image on X of a news clipping about the first-ever call made in India in 1995 and said that now the country had nearly 1.2 billion mobile users. Over three decades, mobile users have significantly grown in India, and now, most of the population uses smartphones that support the internet, video calls, and multimedia sharing. The picture shared by DoT includes a clipping of an old newspaper about the first mobile call in India. On July 31, 1995, the Bengal CM Jyoti Basu made the first call using a Nokia headset to Union Telecom Minister Sukhram at Sanchar Bhaban of New Delhi.
